Let’s face it: it’s easy to be confused with the SAP S/4HANA editions. The on-premise edition can be implemented on-premise, but also in a private or public cloud or even in a hybrid setup. The cloud edition, on the other hand, can only come from SAP’s public cloud... except if you opt for the private option! On top of that, customers have to choose between different scopes for the cloud edition. Fasten your seat belts, we’re about to get your head out of the clouds!

On-Premise editions have been covered in many posts and presentations. Let’s focus on the cloud editions that are new to the party.

With S/4HANA Cloud, SAP is providing a simpler way to consume enterprise software. But “simple” doesn’t mean that everybody is the same. With only a few releases of maturity, S/4HANA Cloud already has some interesting coverage if your requirement matches:

  • SAP S/4HANA Marketing Cloud (+base option)
  • SAP S/4HANA Professional Services Cloud
  • SAP S/4HANA Enterprise Management Cloud.

Will it fit?

According to Sven Denecken, SVP Product Management and Co-Innovation S/4HANA, “New [S/4HANA, cloud enterprise] editions are in the planning stage. There will be additional industry functionality.” However, as explained here +The S/4HANA Cloud Road Map, the details of the new functions and features to be released in the cloud have not yet been published.

The best way to know which S/4HANA Cloud Edition is best for you and your organization would be to contact your Bluefin experts and conduct a fit2standard analysis.
