Bluefin's Data Generator enables you to easily generate large volumes of meaningful test data in your BW systems.

Traditionally one of the problems with BW implementations in not having sufficient data volumes in development and test environments, meaning that performance problems do not emerge until configuration is moved into the production system. This approach is both costly and time consuming.

The Data Generator could be of interest to you if:

• You are implementing R/3 in parallel with BW and therefore do not have appropriate data volumes in any environment for testing purposes
• You want to run a comprehensive BW performance test with large volumes of meaningful data
• You want to benchmark your system to compare relative performance with other installations.

How it works

The Data Generator is built in ABAP.

The program first asks you to select the InfoSource for which you want to generate data. You also need to select the generation target ? either a flatfile or a database table. If you have already loaded master data for your InfoObjects, you have the option of using this to generate random transaction data, thereby insuring realistic characteristic values. Otherwise the Data Generator can also generate master data values too. You also have the option of selecting ranges of values for Key Figures so that you can specify that Net Value should be between 20.00 and 100.00.

Once the file(s) or table(s) has been populated, you simply need to load this into your BW InfoCube.
