Asia Pacific: Is Business Analytics just as important as Nasi Lemak for Malaysia?
24 Mar 2011
Business Intelligence (BI), Asia Pacific
If you have ever visited Malaysia you won't be shocked that the country has a constant craving for food. The search and variety is endless and it shapes the lives of the community regardless of the time of day. Breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner and supper - food, food and more food! Nasi Lemak is a staple dish that is at the core of this passion. You'll be hard pressed to find someone who dislikes it.
The other passion of these citizens is the growth of Malaysia. As a rapidly growing economy, Malaysians are passionate about building a foundation that enables choice, and emphasises efficiencies and quality through public transparency to information; and more importantly the ability to forecast success towards a fully developed nation.
At the heart of this success will be the information and technology that enables the public sector to achieve visions such Information and Communications (ICT) 2020 but also open engagement and collaboration with groups such as FutureGov Asia Pacific and local thought leaders and vendors during this journey.
So what have we learned?
Some things are just truly Malaysian - like Nasi Lemak. Then there are those things that have national importance and significance in shaping the future of Malaysia - like the adoption of Business Analytics in the public sector.
Business Analytics may not be the next Nasi Lemak; but it should certainly become part of the Malaysian diet as it will enable the country to explore and execute on opportunities to become a more efficient and integrated society and build a common foundation of information to empower citizens to make knowledge based decisions for the future.
With the FutureGov Malaysia Forums running March 24-25th, it will be interesting to see the ideas generated on this topic.
