Business process to business buy-in Print E-mail
Written by Ian Curtis

Business expects that when they ask the project to deliver a process that the system can deliver and in many instances the reason for failure is the interpretation of the requirements.

Using Nimbus Control 2007 and SAP Solution Manager we can limit this as we can take the Business Processes that have been mapped in Control, and turn these into the Business Blueprint within SAP Solution Manager, and from this define the configuration required to deliver.

Within Bluefin we have taken our HR processes and through tight integration of the process and the configuration have created a well run project and a solution that is delivered for the business.

In Control 2007 we developed our HR processes in business terminology. Then our functional consultants took these processes and developed the blueprint in Solution Manager under transaction SOLAR01. Solution Manager comes with Business Scenarios that can be switched on and are a great help for getting a headstart. Once activated they can be changed if your process requirements do not adhere to SAP standard, or bespoke ones can be created.

Bluefin identified the points where SAP needed to be used in the process and these were then created in Solution Manager. The attached Solution Manager screen shows that the input of a new employee into SAP has been added to the Business Processes and the transaction(s) required to make this process happen have been added. This means that the business requirements in Control have now been turned into SAP functional requirements in SAP language.

Using the integration certified with SAP, Bluefin have aligned the Business (Nimbus Control Maps) with Solution Manager by downloading the transaction links. Using Statement sets within Control the transactions are downloaded, and then manually attached by the business and functional consultants. This means we end up with Control linked to SAP transactions allowing SAP GUI transactions to be executed directly from a Nimbus Control map making this a good alternative for end user deployment. We have business buy in as they can see their processes being attached to SAP transactions and they have been involved in this key step.

The business now have their processes in their terminology linked to SAP transactions. It provides a clear and concise view to the user.
But Bluefin have not finished there, what we then go onto achieve is linking this business process map in Control back to the configuration business process in Solution Manager. By exporting the Statement set from Control and importing it into Solution Manager it allows direct access to the live Nimbus Control process maps from within the process structure in Solution Manager.
The project team are able to see the process they are affecting during configuration and the support team can quickly understand where in the process the users were at the point of an error.

It really does create a greater link between an SAP delivery team and the business users.

The import and export functions can be set to run at regular intervals thus ensuring that the two components delivering business benefits are aligned and variations are quickly identified through reporting.

In the end at Bluefin it has created an integrated toolset that enable the business and development/support to see the impact changes to configuration and business process will have on their solutions, providing them with greater clarity on changes to requirements and cost of those business improvements.
