Step 8. The Real-Time InfoPackage & DTP were assigned to the Daemon

Step 9. The daemon was started (Figure 7)

Once the RDA Daemon is started, it pulls new data from the R/3 delta queue into the PSA and then from the PSA directly into the active table of the corresponding DSO. Thus, all new data is available for reporting immediately in spite of having the data request open.

The RDA Daemon automatically closes the data requests once a certain run-time (duration) or maximum number of rows is achieved. There are in fact two requests at a time; one is from R/3 to the PSA and another from the PSA to DSO. New data requests created automatically.

There are 2 more things to keep in mind about the RDA functionality:

  • A subsequent Process Chain can be assigned to a Daemon as well. Thus, it is possible to link RDA with classic ETL.
  • RDA can work with DSOs only, and not with InfoCubes. Also Real-Time DTPs can be created for DSOs only.

In my opinion this functionality will be useful for any type of 'on line' reporting. However, it should be remembered that in fact this is near real time functionality. This means that there will be always a short delay between the transaction in the source system and the data appearing in BW.
