Why did organisations only purchase and use SAP Business Intelligence (BI) for Sales and Financial reporting? The answer is simple; because they were the two areas perceived by management at that time, which required better and sexy, granular reporting and they’d also be able to demonstrate and justify a better ROI to their Company. Having taken delivery of a shiny new iPad it’s now time to put it to good use and demonstrate it’s potential as a business tool. SAP released the SAP BusinessObjects app for the iPhone quite sometime ago and this app has now been updated for the iPad. Rather than simply download the app and play with the sample data, this blog post will demonstrate how you can upload some sample data onto Business Objects On-Demand, create a sample dataset, apply some sample filters, and subsequently view these master and filtered datasets on the iPad.

I frequently present to customers around ways of maximising the Business Users experience of SAP and BusinessObjects technologies. If we step back in time to pre 2008 BusinessObjects and SAP had a number of perceived competing technologies and certainly a number of common paradigms. As the future technology roadmap is clearly showing a convergence between the two suites of technologies there still appears to be a lot of confusion around what tools is available for Business Users both today and going forward.

Key concept:
Data Type FLTP - Floating point number, accurate to 8 bytes is often required for persistent key figures which are calculated in BI. BI developers often ignore this data type when maintaining a key figure.
